Performance Comparison of Single Phase Wound Field Flux Switching Machines

2018
Various topologies of single-phase Wound-Field Switched Flux (WFSF) machines have been introduced recently due to low cost and high efficiency. In this paper 8-slots WFSF machine with 6 and 10 rotor poles have been compared with 12S-6P segmental rotor WFSF machine. 12S-6P WFSF machine have alternate windings arrangement of field excitation coil and disadvantage of less flux linkage, high cogging torque, and low average torque. 8S-10P and 8S-6P WFSF machines have forward windings arrangement of field excitation coil and salient rotor structure exhibits higher flux linkage, greater average torque, and suitable for high speed applications. 2-Dimension Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to evaluate the performance of WFSF machines. The simulation results including flux-linkage, back-EMF, cogging torque, torque characteristics, instantaneous torque, and torque speed characteristics of machines are compared.
