COMPARATIVE STUDY ON ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATE ENERGY SOURCES WITH CONVENTIONAL ENERGY SOURCES

2015
"> In a study conducted at Arid Zone Research Centre (AZRC), Dera Ismail Khan (D.I.Khan) during 2014, the cost and benefit of alternative energy i.e biogas plant and conventional energy (diesel and electricity) used for pumping of water for agriculture purpose were economically analyzed. The basic underlying assumption of the analysis was that the people / farmers will adopt new technology only if there is positive impact on their financial situation. The analysis will also helpful to combat soaring energy crises faced by the agriculture sector particularly in pumping / lifting water. Study was conducted at farmer’s field at D.I. Khan. Results showed that the Net Present Value (NPV) of biogas plant was Rs. 8.203, diesel Rs. 7.211 and electricity Rs. 8.192 millions. The NPV of biogas plant was relatively higher than the diesel and electricity. The Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) of biogas plant, diesel and electricity was respectively calculated as 6.66, 4.02 and 6.60. Though, the NPV and BCR of the biogas and electricity are more economical and close to each other but keeping in view of the electric power shut down due to one or the other reasons, it seems more viable option than the others. Alternate energy source (biogas system) can be utilized without the worry of fuel supply or electricity transmission power off etc.
