Educational research in social inequality in the Netherlands is dominated by class as an explanation for educational deprivation, through recently, ethnicity has also been considered as a factor. It is argued that this educational research, especially that linked to the evaluation of the Educational Priority Area Policy, does not contribute to a deeper understanding into the many factors that could explain the unfavorable educational position of (former) migrant pupils. This stagnation is due to the chosen theoretical perspective equating migrant pupils of all classes with working-class pupils, & also to the chosen research methodology. 25 References.
