Voice quality of VoIP in mobile communication systems

2006
The purpose of this paper is to study service quality of voice over Internet protocols (VoIP) in wireless communication networks. We develop a simulation framework for VoIP quality, which incorporates wireless links, system performance, and speech quality. In particular, it focuses on simulating the packet voice quality. In the proposed framework, we exploit the Gilbert model to simulate packet dropping in transportation, and use the perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) algorithm to calculate mean opinion score (MOS) of voice. The results show that the packet loss rate, continuous packet loss, and active user number have significant effects on the voice quality.
