Asian knotweeds (Fallopia spp.) are herbaceous plants originating from south-easternAsia that were introduced to Europe at the end of the 19th century for ornamental purposes. They are now widespread across Europe and North America, and are currently considered to be one of the worst invasive species in the world (IUCN 2011).
