Comparison of Grasshopper optimization Algorithm & Flower Pollination Algorithm in Congestion Management

2021
Congestion is defined as overloading in the transmission line. Congestion is the superior problem in the power system which the operator will face in any system which is deregulated. The increased power transmission is associated with increased demand The generation companies in turn give stress on power network for satisfying the demand It will cause the hazard to voltage security, high line losses, violation of line flow limits, hazard to power system stability, high requirement of reactive power and overload of the lines in the power system The most apparent technique is rescheduling the values of generator outputs. But it is not required that all the generators have to be rescheduled. Generator output should be rescheduled in effective way. But this method has few drawbacks. To relieve the congestion many algorithms have been used in Power systems to obtain optimum results. This work gives a comparison of two algorithms to solve the Congestion problem The proposed algorithm imitates and is inspired by the behavior of grasshoppers in nature. This algorithm minimizes the congestion cost and the deviation of reschedule value of generator outputs as compared with Pollination Algorithm The result reveals that the proposed algorithm can solve the congestion problem at less generation and operating cost with minimum power loss. The result also gives different cost comparison. The entire work is done considering IEEE30 bus system Simulation is done in MATLAB and the results verified.
