First report of rhizopus soft rot on soursop (Annona muricata) caused by Rhizopus oryzae in México

2019
The soursop (Annona muricata) is an important tropical plant in the Pacific and Gulf region of Mexico. In a farmer plantation during May, severe soft rot symptoms were observed in fruits of soursop in Iguala, Guerrero state, Mexico. Based on morphological and molecular identifications, isolate from soursop with the disease was Rhizopus oryzae. Koch’s postulates were verified and fulfilled. To our knowledge, this is the first report of R. oryzae as a pathogen of soursop in Mexico and worldwide.
