The Japan-United States Teacher Education Consortium (JUSTEC) was formed in 1987 to promote collaborative international research and faculty development regarding teacher education. As part of this 20-member university consortium, faculty at Tamagawa University (Tokyo) and San Diego State University have been engaged in a collaborative research project to increase understanding of the ways in which novice teachers (student teachers and new teachers) are acculturated into the teaching profession in Japan and the United States.
