Scanned Laser Pico-Projection Image Processing for Cancer-Like Cells Induced by Isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside

2018
Compared to normal cells, cancer cells have unique characteristic in oncogene and morphology. Isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) can be used as an inducer to trigger transcription of oncogene Ha-ras. Scanned Laser Pico-Projection (SLPP) image provide a texture enhancement effect for analyzing features of cell morphology. In this study, we also use Gray-level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), a common method for image processing, to analyze to morphology texture. The cancer-like cells (MK4 and 7-4 cells) induced by IPTG from normal cells (MDCK and NIH-3T3) have the higher Contrast and Entropy, but the lower Correlation, Homogeneity, and Energy. It can differentiate normal & cancer-like pairs and works on epithelial and fibroblast cells. It means that it can classify the major cell species of cancer occurrence.
