Olfactory feedback in the scent marking behaviour of foraging honeybees at the food source

1982
. Raising or lowering the concentration of Nasonov scent around nectar gathering honeybees (Apis mellifica) had no influence on the following: duration of the scent fanning (‘sterzeln’) before drinking; duration of the sterzeln during drinking; time spent with the scent organ everted during drinking. The presence of citral at the food source also had no effect on any of the above durations. It is concluded that olfactory feedback is not involved in the control of this behaviour.
