SUSTAINABLE ARTERIAL ROAD PLANNING IN GREATER TOKYO: ROLES OF THE METROPOLITAN EXPRESSWAY

Over the past decade, "sustainable transport" has become a key concept in transport policies in many Western countries with the emergence of serious concerns for the global environment. The future of the trunk road network, with a focus on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway, is presented in this paper, as well as a review of the trunk road plan in Greater Tokyo from the point of supporting the global issue of sustainable development.
