Vision in the very young child

2014
In comparison to the historical situation, the past few decades have seen a transformation of our approach to newborns and infants. The preferential looking technique has enabled us to precisely measure visual and visuo-cognitive abilities from the very first days of life. Anatomical data and medical progress have transformed familial and social care of the child. Laboratory studies can now measure visual resolution, the visual field, stereoscopy, accommodation, contrast and color sensitivity, and ocular motricity, all of which has led to more widespread use of such techniques in clinical assessment and care. The future of visually deficient infants has been greatly improved.
