Cultural Interchange Regarding the Distribution of Fine Paste Ceramics Within Riverine Societies Along the Usumacinta’s Mid to Low Basin and Various Gulf Coast’s Communities

2015
The present chapter centers on the production and distribution of fine paste ceramics by different riverine communities in the Usumacinta region between Tabasco and Chiapas as well as by communities along the Gulf Coast during the Late and Terminal Classic period. These places had been leading the production of this highly valuable ceramic during the Classic Maya period. Even though much research is still to be done to better understand the production and distribution of fine paste ceramics, this chapter sheds light on a panorama that seemingly sees some communities more likely producing and distributing the ceramics while others, specifically the ones along the Gulf Coast, were involved as intermediaries in the distribution process.
