Method for treating solid waste with an organic fraction, according to which method the waste (1) is sieved while wet, characterized in that a slurry (4) diluting with water (3) waste (1) containing portion is organic material, which has been obtained thanks to the dry selection of mixed domestic waste, industrial waste which is comparable to domestic waste or residual waste, or waste (1) from a composting device or fermentation device, this slurry is sieved aqueous thick, at least by means of a device (5) sieve allowing passage of pieces having a dimension in at least one direction that is between 2 and 20 mm, to retain a rough fraction after which it is removed by magnets part of ferrous metals (8) which are present in the waste (1), the slurry (7) that has passed, the slurry is dried (7) and water (3) delproceso drying is recycled and used to dilute the waste (1).
