Physical and thermo-mechanical properties of coated and without coated alumina-boron based refractory castable for petrochemical industry application

2020
Abstract The coating of alumina borate with Nobel metal oxide is uniform and doesn't alter the chemical composition of the composite. This coating improves the refractory properties of the base material and increases the areas of application. The present study is aimed to compare the effect of various coatings over the refractory properties of alumina borate. Four coatings were studied (Cr2O3, SiO2, ZnO, and TiO2) to make a comparative study of different Nobel oxides. The alumina borate (ABO) was made using hydrolization route to prevent combustion and coating by the sol-gel method. To confirm the microstructural properties after coating were done by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) was performed for phase identification at different temperatures. The physical thermo-mechanical properties i.e. bulk density, apparent porosity and High-temperature modulus of rupture were measured for different coated samples. The comparative study of fabricated sample was presented at different parameters. Resultant it was observed that the SiO2 coated sample shows remarkable improve properties as compared to other coated samples.
