A New Chemistry Course for Non‐Chemistry Majors

1982
Summaries English A new course for teaching basic chemistry to non‐chemistry engineering majors is described, consisting of a split two‐semester course. The first semester provides an introductory general chemistry course for incoming freshmen, whilst the second is ‘customer‐orientated’, and is taught in the fourth, fifth or sixth semester, and is based on the choice of three out of six independent modules. These are taught rigorously, using specially written monographs, laboratory exercises and tutorials, and exploiting the students’ previous grounding in mathematics and physics. The organization of this second semester course and the topics discussed in the various modules are reported.
