Oxidative decarboxylation of carboxylic acids with lead tetraacetate has been studied in detail. Numerous repre� sentatives of aliphatic, alicyclic, and arylaliphatic acids were examined in this reaction. 2 The use of Pb(OAc) 4 and the Pb(OAc) 4 —I, Pb(OAc) 4 —Cu(OAc) 2 , and Pb(OAc)4—MHal oxidizing systems (M is alkali metal) opens new ways of transforming acids into unsaturated hydrocarbons and halohydrocarbons. Oxidative decar� boxylation was carried out in a liquid phase generally at high temperature with the use of solvents (benzene, dichloromethane, acetic acid, etc.).
