A Comparative study on value conflict among adolescent boys and girls

2016
The present study is an attempt to find out gender difference in value probabilities and associated value conflict of adolescents. It was conducted in government colleges of Ludhiana district. It was based on 400 adolescents comprising 200 boys and 200 girls aged between 18 to 20 years and hailing from rural and urban areas. A value conflict scale was used to measure value conflict among adolescents. The scale comprised of six dimensions namely; Evasion Vs Fortitude, Dependence Vs Self Reliance, Selfishness Vs Probity, Hate Vs Love, Fear Vs Assertion and Pragmatism Vs Idealism. Results showed that there was significant difference between boys and girls in all the dimensions except Hate Vs Love. Boys were found to be more inclined towards positive and self strengthening values as compared to girls and thus can be stated that the boys despite being in value conflict state had tendency for positive values.
