Covenants in Conveyancing Instruments: A Note for the Vernacular Architectural Historian

1994
AbstractThe author, an archivist, emphasises the importance for vernacular architecture studies of careful examination of covenants in conveyancing instruments (particularly those dealing with leasehold estates) as a source of evidence for building and rebuilding of houses. Examples are given from the sixteenth century onwards, and reference is made in particular to repairing covenants and inventories (of fixtures and fittings) as subjects of deed covenants.
