Analysis of GNSS Measurement Error on High Latitude Precise Maritime Navigation

2018
Remotely-Operated Vehicle(ROV) or Autonomous Unmanned vehicle(AUV) in Arctic Ocean is one of the issue for climate change and natural resources researching. Arctic sea floor environment is different from the other sear floor. It is considerably difficult to survey underwater positioning due to strong tidal currents flow. In addition, since Arctic Ocean surface is covered with ice, ROV or AUV could not surfaced anywhere. Therefore, it is important for AUV to get positioning and set waypoint. AUV’s underwater positioning systems uses underwater acoustic positioning system as like Long baseline(LBL) or Ultra-short baseline(USBL) acoustic positioning, AUV’s sensor positioning system and Integrated two systems. Especially, LBL acoustic positioning system is one of AUV’s underwater positioning techniques. In case LBL acoustic positioning system, Reference sensor positioning accuracy is important. However, GNSS used one of positioning system signals are susceptible to ionosphere scintillation. In regions of smallscale irregularities in electron density, the GPS signals may experience scintillation effects – random rapid variations in signal phase and amplitude. Such effects can cause errors in receiver signal tracking loop and, in some cases, loss of signal lock. Most of the scintillation studies are focused on the statistical distribution of the magnitude of radio signal amplitude and phase fluctuations described by the S4 index and phase sigma measurements. Scintillation events triggers have been implemented to initialize RF front- end data recording systems during strong scintillations. This paper analyses of GNSS measurement error on high latitude and estimate relationship parameter between ionosphere delay and measurements. This paper present GPS measurement error and cycle slip during polar and auroralscintillation, normal condition. These results will be used for real-time navigation system as like acoustic positioning system. For analysis of GNSS measurement error, the data are collected from simulator and Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI)’s Dasan Arctic Station in Svalbard islands.
