Efficiency of Butachlor, Propanil and 2,4-D in Controlling Weeds in Upland Rice1

1980
A field experiment was conducted in summer seasons of 1975 and 1976 at the Assam Agricultural University Farm, Jorhat on sandy loam soil on the control of weeds in upland rice (Oryza sativa L, ‘Pusa 2–21’). Pre-emergence application of butachlor [N-(butoxymethyl-2-chloro-2’6’-diethylacetanilide)] at 3 kg a.i./ha or butachlor at 2 kg a.i./ha + propanil (3’ 4’-dichloropropionalide) at 1.5 kg a.i./ha was as effective as hand weeding in controlling weeds in rice field. All the herbicides treatments were significantly superior to weedy check (control) in respect of grain yield. Among the herbicides, butachlor at 3 kg a.i./ha was significantly superior in respect of grain yield.
