Evaluation of the factors affecting retention of fiber posts and prefabricated metal posts using push-out test

2011
Objective: To investigate the shear bond strength between different prefabricated posts and root canals using different adhesive systems. Methods: C-posts and KF-posts were placed into canals of manxillary central incisors using one step-plus/CB cement(OSP/CB) and Rely X Unicem(RXU) adhesive systems respectively(n=6).The push-out test was performed on different sections of the roots by Synergie tester. The data were analyzed with split-plot ANOVA.Results: The average push-out strengths of C-post with OSP/CB,C-post with RXU,KF-post with OSP/CD and KF-post with RXU were(MPa): 11.14±1.26,5.04±0.94,13.62±1.16,7.80±1.36 respectively.Prefabricated metal posts showed higher push-out strengths than C-posts(P0.000 1).Total-etch adhesive systems resulted in higher strength than the self-adhesive ones(P0.000 1).Bond strengths of the post decreased gradually from crown section to apical section. Conclusion: Shear bond strength of prefabricated posts were affected by post material and adhesive system.
