A secure and light weight three factor authentication protocol for Large Scale Distributed wireless sensor networks

2016
Due to advancements in WSN technology, WSN can be deployed in any holistic environments like environmental monitoring, military, etc., where the BS collects data from sensors, maintains it. To access real-time/updated data, external user may connect directly to the sensor node by bypassing the BS. This results in a critical need to authorize the user by the BS and sensor node. In the literature, various authentication protocols have been proposed by the cryptographic research community. Recently, A.K.Das proposed athree-factor (Smart Card + Password +Biometric) based authentication scheme to resist the security weaknesses in recently proposed Yuan et al. scheme. In this paper on thorough analysis, we demonstrate that the AK.Das et al scheme is vulnerable to various attacks and as a part of our contribution, we construct a modified authentication scheme. The formal and informal security evaluations demonstrate that our scheme has more security features than the related schemes.
