Mass of [sup 11]Li from the [sup 14]C([sup 11]B,[sup 11]Li)[sup 14]O reaction

The mass of the nucleus [sup 11]Li has been determined from a measurement of the [ital Q] value of the reaction [sup 14]C([sup 11]B,[sup 11]Li)[sup 14]O at [ital E]/[ital A][approx]32 MeV. The results, which indicate a two-neutron separation energy of [ital S][sub 2[ital n]]([sup 11]Li)=295 [plus minus]35 keV, put this basic quantity on a firm basis for use in theoretical models of the halo nucleus [sup 11]Li.
