Microstructure, mechanical properties and biocompatibility of novel Ti-20Zr-xMo alloys

2021
Abstract In this work, the microstructure, mechanical properties and biocompatibility of a novel Ti-Zr-xMo (x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 wt%) alloys were systematically studied. A single stable β-phase is obtained in this study when the Mo content reaches 15 wt%. And the Ti-Zr-10Mo alloy reaches a maximum strength of about 1100 MPa due to the mechanism of second phase strengthening, solid solution strengthening and fine grain strengthening. However, the plasticity of the alloy is poor due to the precipitation of α' phase near the grain boundaries. Meanwhile, the biocompatibility of the alloy is discussed in this paper through in vitro experimental characterization, and it is found that the biocompatibility of the alloy consisting of a single β-phase is better.
