Experimental research of rail grinding quantity with single grinding wheel has been implemented on GMC-96 rail grinding train in this paper. Firstly, this paper put forward a new idea that rail grinding quantity is defined as the cross-sectional area difference between the profile curves of pre-grinding and post-grinding, Secondly,because of measurement and positioning errors, problems come out that rail profile curves fail to match each other accurately in alignment. Hence the method of calculating rail grinding cut area is proposed by comparing the length of grinding band and rail profile before grinding, which is the closed area formed by band chord and curves. Then orthogonal experiment is designed by setting grinding speed, pressure and angle as influencing factors. Grinding speed is chosen separately as 6, 10, 13km/h, pressure is marked by current as 25, 28 and 30A, grinding angle is chosen as 0°, 8°and 14°. Finally, the orthogonal experiment is completed at Jing-Shi highway grinding field and the relationship between three grinding parameters and the grinding quantity is obtained by analyzing and calculating the data, and it provides theoretical basis for compiling grinding mode.
