As the editor writes in the Preface, nearly 30 years have elapsed since two of the most influential books on infrared spectroscopy of minerals were published. The present book, volume 13 of the Clay Minerals Society Workshop Lectures Series, collects nine chapters written by specialists in their own field on several aspects of vibrational spectroscopy (both Infrared and Raman) applied to the study of clay minerals. After a first, short, chapter by Kloprogge introducing infrared and Raman spectroscopies, the other eight chapters cover several sorts of clays, studied by different approaches of vibrational spectroscopies.
