Scheler, Phenomenology, and Psychopathology

2009
This article discusses the relevance of Scheler’s overall philosophy to psychopathology, in particular its application to schizophrenia in general, to delusional misidentification, and to neuropsychiatry in general. In the author’s opinion, the application of Scheler’s philosophy to psychopathology has been overshadowed by the application of Husserl’s and Heidegger’s philosophies; the purpose of this article is to redress the balance. Even those psychiatrists such as Kurt Schneider and von Gebsattel, who did initiate a ‘Schelerian psychopathology,’ did not have access to his full Collected Works , which the present article attempts to remedy.
