Bunun icin, tavsanlarda topikal penisilin uygulamasi ile deneysel epilepsi olusturuldu. Calisma 20'si deneysel epilep- si grubu ve 20'si kontrol grubu olmak uzere 40 adet tavsan uzerinde gerceklestirildi. Tavsanlarin dort farkli korteks alanina vida elektrotlar yerlestirildi. Posterior sensorimotor alana 60 bin unite potasyum penisilin G damlatilmasi sonrasinda elektrofizyolojik ve klinik nobet gozlendi ve elektrokortigogramlari kaydedildi. Nobet gozlendikten iki saat sonra tavsanlar dekapite edilerek beyinleri cikarildi. Beyinler nitrik asitle homoj- enize edildikten sonra Zn ve Cu duzeyleri atomik absorbsiyon aleti ile olculdu. Epilepsi olusturulan gruptaki Zn miktarlarinda dusukluk, Cu miktarlarinda ise yukseklik tespit edildi. Fakat bu degisiklikler istatistiksel olarak anlamli degildi. Sonuc olarak tavsanlarda topikal penisilin uygulamasinin beyin Zn ve Cu duzeylerini anlamli duzeyde etkilemedigi kanaatine varildi. Anahtar Kelimeler: Epilepsi, cinko, bakir, eser element, penisilin. Abstract The brain trace elements changes in experimental epilepsy induced by topical penicillin application in rabbits The aim of this study was to investigate the role of zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) on physiopathology of epilep- sy. For this purpose, experimental epilepsy model was formed by penicillin application in rabbits. Forty rab- bits were used and divided into equal two groups as experimental epilepsy group and control group. Screw electrodes were applied in four different cortical regions in rabbits. Electrophysiological and clinical seizures were observed after 60000 IU penicillin dropped in posterior sensory motor area, and their electrocorti- gograms were recorded. The animals were decapitated two hours later and their brains were evaluated. Brains were homogenized in nitric acid solution and the levels of Zn and Cu were measured using atomic absorption device. We found that Zn levels in rabbits induced epilepsy were lower and Cu levels were higher than con- trol groups . But these differences were not statistically significant. In conclusion, topical penicillin application had no significant effect Zn and Cu levels in brain of rabbits. Keywords: Epilepsy, zinc, copper, trace elements, penicillin.
