New Structure of Spatial Light Modulator and Its Application in Optical Digital Computing

1. INTRODUDION Optical symbolic substitution (OSS) is a kind of promising structure and algorithm [1], and profound researches have been done about it. So far the liquid crystal modulators have been used widely [2 —6]. On the basis of common liquid crystal light valves, a new type of 2 —dimension pattern —logic liquid crystal light modulator ( 2DPL—LCLM ) is proposedand applied in the truth — table look —up optical symbolic substitutions [7]. In this paper, first the basic structure of 2DPL —LCLM and its mechanism and operating principle are introduced, then using this device a system of truth —table look —up optical symbolic substitution is presented, and at last its possible applications in other fields of optical symbolic substitution digital computing are discussed.
