A COMPLETE DIGITAL INERTIAL MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR RAILWAY TRACK GEOMETRY

2000
The inertial measurement method is based on a simple law that states that the double integration of the acceleration gives its displacement. The track irregularity record obtained by the former inertial measurement system has a wave distortion. It is caused by the nonlinear phase property of the analog high-pass filter that stabilizes the integration. To solve the problem, this paper proposes two digital inertial measurement systems. As for the low-speed motorcar, it describes the digital inertial system using a variable cascaded integrator comb (CIC) filter. The system can obtain a 10 m versine signal directly. The paper proposes a system that could obtain the track waveform on the ground for a high-speed test train. As the result of several examinations with a personal computer, it was confirmed that track irregularities obtained from the proposed digital systems do not accept the wave distortion. Equipment based on this study will be added to the new track inspection car to be completed in September 2000.
