Beidseitige Hippocampussklerose : Neuropsychologische Befunde (Leitthema)

2009
Four children with bilateral hippocampal sclerosis are presented. The etiology was encephalitis in two cases, a postnatal hypoxic event in one case, and status epilepticus in one case. The neuropsychological examination revealed in three cases global cognitive deficits and learning disabilities regarding semantic and episodic memory and language. Social development in these three cases was also profoundly disturbed. Only one child could attend a regular school. Uniform symptomatology, which would correspond with so-called developmental amnesia, could not be detected.
