O sistema Aquífero Guarani e a crise hídrica nas regiões de campinas e são paulo (sp)

2015
The Guarani Aquifer System (GAS) is one of the most important fresh water sources for Sao Paulo State. Because of its large capacity and high resilience to drought, it has been considered for supplying the municipalities located in the Northwest region of the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiai Rivers watersheds, as part of a strategy to mitigate the effects of the water crisis striking the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo. This is the first time such a large volume of groundwater is being directed for urban public supply, which has turned such project into a pioneering experience. Studies have shown that the GAS in the outcropping Itirapina region (SP) could produce discharges of >1 m3 /s from 24 wells (300 m). Besides providing those cities with additional water supply, the GAS would also increase water security because of the variety of supplying sources and the high resilience of groundwater resources
