Cognitive-semantic Approaches to English Compond Nouns

English compound is a major method of word formation.This paper,based on the early research results of semanticism and cognitive linguistics,makes a study on the semantic meanings and cognitive models of English compound nouns,pointing out that it can enlarge word meaning through metaphor.It suggests that the students should cultivate the ability to understand the meanings of this kind in the context.
