Review of Lightning Observation on Overhead Distribution Lines in Japan

The authors summarized observation results related to countermeasures of power distribution lines against lightning strikes. The authors show the observation results of lightning surge due to direct lightning strikes as well as indirect lightning strikes to distribution lines. Moreover damages due to a backflow current from a high structure and a side flash to a distribution line from a tree are shown.
