Relativistic effects in spin- and light-polarization parameters for low energy electron-cesium scattering

1993
Based on a recent Dirac R-matrix (close-coupling) calculation, we derived the complete set of spin-polarization parameters ({open_quotes}generalized STU parameters{close_quotes}) for elastic and inelastic scattering of slow (E{sub kin} {<=} 2.04 eV) spin-polarized electrons from polarized and unpolarized neutral Cs atoms. Our results, together with the light polarizations ({open_quotes}integrated Stokes parameters{close_quotes}) in the optical decays (6p){sup 2}P{sub 1/2,3/2}{sup o} {yields} (6s){sup 2}S{sub 1/2} allow for a quantitative estimate of the importance of relativistic effects. The predictions clearly deviate from those obtained by simply jj-recoupling an essentially nonrelativistic calculation.
