UV–visible spectra of perovskite iron-doped Ba0.72Sr0.28TiO3
2008
Abstract The ultraviolet–visible spectra of the pure barium strontium titanate (Ba 0.72 Sr 0.28 TiO 3 ) and the Fe 3+ -doped Ba 0.72 Sr 0.28 TiO 3 were measured. The pure barium strontium titanate exhibited an ultraviolet (UV) absorption effect. The addition of Fe 2 O 3 resulted in an increase of absorption wavelength. This red-shift effect was very strong even though the amount of Fe 3+ was very small. The similar phenomenon was also observed in pure BaTiO 3 and Fe 3+ -doped BaTiO 3 . The UV-absorption behavior was discussed in terms of Fe 3+ replacing Ti 4+ in the titanate with perovskite structure.
