Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Two Metal–Radical Complexes

2019
Two new M(II)–radical complexes [M(hfac)2(NITPhSCH3)2] (M = Co (1), Mn (2); NITPhSCH3 = 4′-thiomethylphenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide; and hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, element analyses, IR and UV–Visible spectroscopy. X-ray analysis reveals that the structures of both complexes are similar and crystallize in the Triclinic space group in P1 with the respective cell parameters: a = 10.9014(12) A, b = 11.5065(13) A, c = 20.084(2) A, α = 81.379(3)°, β = 84.015(3) °, γ = 63.906(3)°, V = 2234.8(4) A3, Z = 2 for compound 1 and a = 10.9449(13) A, b = 11.5604(13) A, c = 20.224(2) A, α = 81.337(3) °, β = 84.016(3) °, γ = 63.964(3)°, V = 2270.9(5) A3, Z = 2 for compound 2. The central M(II) ions are coordinated by four oxygen atoms from two hfac and two oxygen atoms from nitronyl radicals to form a distorted octahedron. Additionally, the optical properties of the two complexes are reported.
