The origins of food production in southern South America. This paper deals with the few well known evidence, according to precise contexts, of the inicial events of cultivation of plants and domestication of animals in the territory now covered by Argentina and Chile. These events started near the X millenium B.P., when all the American population lived within a pattern of hunting and gathering with different emphasis on one or the other, by the beginning of the Holocene, wich was a time of important environmental changes and growing cultural experimental by these societies.
