Activated carbon filter used for drinking water treatment showed considerable damages of the inner rubber coating after a relatively short running time. Experiments in the drinking water system with varying qualities of rubber proved that the material damage was caused by microorganisms. An impairment of the drinking water could not be discovered. Linings of activated carbon filters with soft rubber coating on the basis of natural caoutchouc are not suitable for the prevailing conditions
