An Inpatient Model for the Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa

The treatment of anorexia nervosa has been approached from a variety of therapeutic perspectives (Bemis, 1978; Russell, 1981) ranging from traditional psychoanalytic to purely behavioral. To date, it would appear that no single model has been demonstrated as an effective approach in treating this complex disorder . Therefore, rather than continue the pursuit of "proving" which orientation is best, the current chapter will describe a comprehensive approach that attempts to draw from the most effective aspects that each perspective has to offer for the inpatient treatment of anorexia.
