A Comprehensive Modeling of Double Tuned Filter for Efficient Mitigation of Harmonic Distortion

2020
It is a necessity for any power system to improve power quality in order to maximize efficiency and minimize damage of loads. With the growing number of power electronic interfaced devices in the power system, the injection of large amount of harmonics is a major concern. Passive filters are widely used to serve the purpose of bypassing harmonics. Among the different types of passive filters, the double tuned filter (DTF) poses a number of merits. It is a requisite that for the filter to function effectively and in any types of system, a comprehensive modelling is done to determine the filter parameters. This paper presents a detailed modelling and derivation of the DTF. The obtained model is then tested in a system full of harmonics. Simulation results proved that the proposed model can successfully reduce system harmonics and is able to help retain power quality according to IEEE standard.
