The Robe River Iron Ore Project

1973
This paper describes the development of the Robe River Iron Ore Project, the fourth major iron ore producing operation in the North West of Australia. A description of the project is provided. Emphasis is placed on those factors which determined that a design approach at variance with the more usually accepted concepts be adopted. The characteristics and nature of occurrence of the ore, its transportation, processing and handling and the infrastructure facilities associated with this integrated project are described in context. Planning, Scheduling, Project Organization and Cost Control techniques utilized are reviewed and the paper concludes with a discussion of some aspects of Project Construction with specific detail relating to the provision of Temporary Facilities for a project of this magnitude.
