Induction of Lung Cancer in Wistar Rats by Tin Ore Dust Containing Arsenicals
1984
As the crude death rate of lung cancer of tin miners is up to 338.13/105 person-years, etiological research in this field is much imperative. A long-term carcinogenicity assay was conducted using intra-tracheal injection of mining dusts into Wistar rats. Five groups of rats, each of 20–70 of 200–300 gm body weight, were treated with the following dust samples:
1)
dust from tin oxide ore, 1.98% As
2)
dust from another tin oxide ore, 11.39% As
3)
combination of dust from tin oxide and Pb-As ore, 16.05% As
4)
mixture of dusts from tin oxide and tin sulfide ores, 30.22% As
5)
normal saline serving as negative control
