Coupling gels for vitreous silica optics

Two colourless thixotropic gels for uniting silica optics, based on hydrocarbon or silicone fluids of the same refractive index thickened with fused silica, improve coupling efficiency by eliminating interfacial reflections. Chemically inert and non-hardening, they are particularly suitable for use in demountable joints for fibre optics.
