Vodafone's Cell Phone Tower Proposal, Bayswater, North Shore City

2008
Summary of public submissions Thirty-one submissions were made to Council about the tower and all were against the application. People, in general, were worried about the health effects, and stated that no substantial evidence was available. Many questioned vodafone's reasoning behind siting the tower where it was, as it was not to the west of the peninsula and the application did not contain any reasoning into why such a large tower was appropriate. Bays water Primary School and Kindergarten were worried about the current and prospective parents and students of these institutions and the perception they would have of the tower, perhaps affecting whether they chose to attend their local school and kindergarten. Most people felt the tower should not be located in such a residential area, especially because it is to be so much higher than any surrounding structures. They worried this would have a detrimental effect on the amenity of the area and cause property values to drop. The only technological alternative people stated, that did not include having no tower at all, was to place smaller, micro cell sites, on some of the power poles in the area, which would have a lessened visual effect.
