Characterization of the Anti-Fungal Activity of Waste Ornamental Flowers (Calendula Officinalis and Chrysanthemum) Against Plant Pathogens

Calendula officinalis and Chrysanthemum are widely used for their medicinal values throughout the world especially in Europe, China and India. These traditional medicines have found usage especially in wound healing, jaundice control, blood purification, and as an antisplasmodic. Chemical studies have established the presence of various classes of compounds, with major proportion of triterpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, coumarines, quinones, volatile oil, carotenoids and amino acids. In the present investigation, the extracts of these flowers were isolated and checked for their anti-fungal activity against plant pathogen with variable concentrations using disc diffusion technique and alkaloid contents were also analyzed. The extracts were effective against all the tested fungi at 80% concentration
