Generic model of a VSC-based HVDC link for RMS simulations in PSS/E

Abstract HVDC transmission technology is a key factor for the development of future electric power networks. A generic modelling representation of such systems is important for their performance evaluation. This paper addresses the difficulties of creating a generic model in PSS/E for dynamic studies and offers a set of simulation results compared with another RMS simulation tool (PowerFactory). It is shown through the comparison process the generic model produces similar results with the PowerFactory model even though differences in the modelling approach are present.
