Readout of transient signal based on optical phase modulation

2020
In experiments of nuclear or particle physics, detectors always generate transient pulse signals, which usually has a very fast leading or trailing edge. With the development of modern physics experiments, reading out the nuclear signals with long distance and low distortion becomes challenging. Interferometric fiber-optic sensors have attracted more and more attention because of its high sensitivity, strong anti-interference ability, large dynamic range, easy to reuse and other advantages. Among those demodulation methods of interferometric fiber optic sensors, phase generated carrier (PGC) demodulation is widely used because of its high sensitivity, large dynamic range and good linearity. Based on the theory and technology of optical phase modulation, this paper proposes a new method of transient analog signals readout with long distance, and carries out relevant simulation and experiments. The experimental results show that the method can read out the transient signal of the detector effectively with low distortion.
