Gain Enhancement of a Microstrip Antenna in Close Proximity to a Human

Gain enhancement of a microstrip antenna (MSA) set on the surface of a human body is investigated. Antenna characteristics based on the distance between the ground plane of the antenna and the surface of a human phantom are simulated, and measurements with a human subject are examined. In order to obtain maximum gain of the MSA, different sizes of the ground plane are used. The effect of gain enhancement of MSA close to the human body is discussed by comparing the numerical simulation with measurement results.
